Shane Doughty

Assistant Planner

Shane Doughty is an Assistant Planner, where his focus is on current and advanced planning projects. Shane currently works on a variety of building and planning permits. Additionally, Shane staffs the front counter and handles inquiries from the public. Shane also will assist with business license review and community preservation questions. Shane has also worked in an Advanced Planning Division. Shane earned his Bachelor of Arts in History with a Minor in Political Science from the University of Iowa in 2021.

Prior to joining Good City, Shane served as a Planning Intern with a city government, where he worked on both current and advanced planning projects. His work included drafting of ordinances, review of use and building permits, assisting in General Plan community outreach efforts and code enforcement.

Prior to his internship, Shane served as an AmeriCorps staffer in Iowa City. In his first term, he served within the University of Iowa Student Wellness Services with a focus on addressing food insecurity on campus. His second term was with The Shelter House, Iowa City, a transitional housing organization where he focused on housing insecurity for low-income individuals and families through expanding volunteer staffing, social media outreach and fundraising.
