Max Mendenhall

Assistant Planner

Max joined Good City in July 2023 as a Planning Intern. In that role, he
supported both current and advanced planning efforts across multiple
jurisdictions, including project review for residential building permits, drafting City Council meeting minutes, and providing support for the update of the San Carlos Housing Element. Prior to joining Good City, Max served as an Assistant Camp Director for the City of Redwood City, where he oversaw staff, managed logistics for youth programs, and coordinated daily operations for hundreds of participants.

In his current role as an Assistant Planner, he will be working on zoning
verifications, plan reviews, drafting of staff reports, presentations to Planning Commissions, business license zoning checks, and front counter services. Currently, Max is a contract Planner for the Town of Portola Valley and the City of San Carlos.

Max earned his Bachelor of Science degree in City and Regional Planning
from California Polytechnic University with a minor in Real Property
Development. While in school, he focused on issues related to sustainability, property development, and community outreach. For his senior project, Max developed a sustainability plan for Chalk Mountain Golf Course in San Luis Obispo County, analyzing energy usage, water conservation strategies, and opportunities for habitat restoration. He also worked on a studio project involving a corridor redesign for the City of Morro Bay and contributed to a group housing element update simulation for the City of Pismo Beach.
